Thankful during Thanksgiving!!

Last night some of my best friends and I had our 7th annual Friend Thanksgiving. We started this tradition when we were roomates in college and I am so glad we have continued it every year since. For me it usually signifies the start of the Holiday season and I start to think about the many things I have in my life that I am thankful for. My pastor preached a sermon yesterday morning about Thanksgiving and reminded people to be thankful for the big and small things in your life. He said to make of list of things you are thankful for and you can see the many ways that God has blessed your life. Below is my list (I restricted it to 20 things so it wouldnt get too overwhelming) of some things in my life that I am thankful for. Each blessing is from God and we must remember to first and foremost give thanks to Him for His abundant grace.

Pslam 107:1 "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever."

I am thankful for...(in no particular order, except for the first 8 haha)

1. The fact that I have been saved by the grace of God
2. Jesus dying on the cross for my sins
3. My wonderful and amazing husband
4. My dad and the fact that we have breakfast together every sat morning
5. My mom, I only hope to one day be like her
6. For my sister, she is my BEST friend and for her husband Jimmy and his sacrifice protecting the City of Greenville
7. My soon to be born niece Alexis Lynn (I cannot wait till she gets here)
8. That I have THE GREATEST friends in the world (some since elementary school and recent ones too). I would do anything for them, and I know they will always be there for me too even if we can see each other as much as we would like too.
9. That I have a job during these hard times
10. My co-workers, they make the job so much better
11. That I was born in the United States, I am definitely proud to be an American
12. For all the men and women (especially Adam's brother) of the armed forces and their families who sacrifice their lives for our freedom
13. For our house (and the $8000 tax credit)
14. My cat Roxie, she is the best bed snuggle buddy
15. My puppy Rambo, I now understand the special bond between a dog and owner
16. That my husband, Adam makes me laugh every single day and we can have the best time just doing nothing
17. That I have a church that feels like home - Temple Baptist in Simpsonville, and for my pastor, Brad Whitt who preaches God's word and challenges me to be a better Christain
18. For Christmas, my favorite time of the year
19. A fun one…for M&M’s haha : )
20. That I have been blessed by having so much to be thankful for

Fall definitely gets me into a good mood. I love this time of the year...college football, great weather, leaves changing, the Holidays are getting closer...I mean it doesnt get much better than this. This time of year reminds me to be thankful for the small and big things in life. God creates such beauty with the leaves changing and it is hard not to think about how awesome He is. Also with the Holidays quickly approaching I get thankful for my wonderful family and friends and also for the small things.
Fall also gets me into a decorating mood. I love getting to decorate the house with fall things and then that gets me thinking about the Christmas season and I LOVE decorating for Christmas. This year we have our own house, which makes me even more excited. Below are some pics of my fall decor.

Adam and I bought tickets to the Tenn vs UCLA game in Sept. I always love going to Knoxville and watching the Vols play. Since marrying Adam I have become a Tenn Volunteer fan (at least when they dont play Clemson). He is trying to convert me 100% but my blood does run Tiger orange. My dedication lies with Clemson, but I have become a Tenn fan as well. We had a blast at the game even though they lost. We had awesome seats and it was good to get to spend some quality time together.

On Labor Day weekend my sister and I took a trip to New York City. It was great to get to spend some good quality time with her on a cool trip. I know things will get hectic once little Alexis is born in Jan., so it was nice to spend time with her. We went sightseeing, shopping, and just hung out. We also went to M&M world : ). I have now been to 2 out of the 3 locations. Only one more to go, Vegas here I come, haha. For anybody that knows me you know I love M&M's. We finally got a new puppy, Adam is so happy. I wanted to wait until we had a house with a backyard, so once we got settled in, we found our pup. His name is Rambo, and he is a Mini Schnauzer and Dachsund mix. He is the cutest puppy ever, at least I think so. We have had him now for about a month and half and he has been the best. Rambo already knows to go to the door to go outside and him and Roxie are starting to get along much better. He is definitely part of the family and we love him so much : )

This is where the title of my blog came from...I love this song by Rascall Flats. It just reminds you about the simple things about marriage and your spouse. I always love spending time with Adam no matter what we are doing. We can just be sitting in the same room doing two completely different things. I never knew how much I would enjoy marriage and how much he really is my soulmate. God made him just for me and I love him so much. : ) I am very blessed to have such a great guy as my husband. Always remeber to appreciate the small things and just being able to spend time with one another.

I am going to New York for my birthday, woohoo!! My parents are treating my sister and I to a trip to New York for our birthdays. We mentioned it to them thinking that they would not say yes, but since we were able to find a great deal online for hotel and plane tickets they were willing. Now Kelly's birthday isnt until March, but we figured we better go now before the baby arrives. We are so excited about the trip. We will only be there for 2 nights but it will be great to getaway and spend time together. I am definitley looking forward to visiting the M&M world up there too (now I only need to go to the one in Las Vegas and I will have been to all three). Anyway, I will definitely take lots of pics to post when we go...it will be in the beginning of Sept, so keep checking back and pray for a safe flight and what not. : )

Tokyo Joe at Wild Wings

Last thursday night, Tokyo Joe came to play at Wild Wings again. I definitely enjoy this band and try to go and see them when they are in Greenville. Yet again they put on another great show. This time we actually got to meet the lead singer, Greg, and take a few pics with him. We also learned that he is OCD about necklace clasps because he fixed both mine and Kris's while talking to us, haha. Here are a couple pics from the night!! Can't wait till they come back again.

This is a picture of my niece or nephew : ). I am getting so excited about my sister Kelly having a baby. She went for her first ultrasound yesterday and her and baby are healthy. Another 7 weeks and we will know if it is a girl or boy. My last post was about trying to save money, but once this baby comes I know I am going to spoil it rotten, haha.

So I have been trying to save money on groceries for the past few weeks. I keep hearing about how all these people save so much money with coupons on double & triple coupon days. So I decided to give it a try myself. This morning I got up early, yes early, to go grocery shopping. Bloom started there triple coupon days today and they are doing it for a whole week (usually they do it for one weekend out of the month). So I have been saving up my coupons that I clip from the Sunday paper and print online and I went shopping. Bloom will only triple coupons under a dollar and they will only take up to 20 coupons per day. I grabbed only the stuff I needed that I had coupons for...and the result....$50.00 worth of groceries for only...$13.00. Pretty good for my first time triple couponing. I was quite proud of myself. My bags included: 4 things of BBQ sauce for grilling that I ended up getting for FREE after my coupon, shaving gel, dish soap, yogurt, breakfast bars, tinfoil, ziploc bags, italian ice (ended up being FREE), pop-tarts, plates, and a few other things. The key is to get things that you will actually use and eat. Some people get wrapped up in the thrill and end up buying things that they will never use. It was definitely quite an experience to get there early on the first day. These coupon people can be intense...I hope that doesnt end up being me, haha. Some even had there kids there to shop too so they could use more than 20 coupons in one trip. I wonder if they would consider Roxie to be a grocery shopper...haha. Anyway, just thought I would share what great savings you can find out there when you save up and use your coupons : )

I got to spend most of Saturday working in my new yard! Adam had to work all day at the Deli, so my parents came over to help me get a few things accomplished. After a nice breakfast with my dad at the Waffle House (our Saturday morning tradition), my mom and I headed to Home Depot and the flower nursery to stock up some flowers to plant. My dad trimmed some trees and branches that were hanging near the house. Once we got back we dug up a few azalia (dont know if that is how to spell it or not) bushes and started on the bed in front of the living room window. The finished product is the first picture below. I was quite proud of my selections and placement. Maybe I should be a landscape designer, haha. We also bought flowers to put around the mailbox as well. My mom was nice enough to buy me a hanging basket plant and a bird bath to go in the yard. My dad also helped me fix the tomato plants by staking them and putting the cages around them. Hopefully Adam and I will soon have fresh tomatoes to enjoy. Still have a lot to do in the backyard, so more pictures will come.

This past Friday night I finally got to see Dorothy's condo. She had all of us over for some shrimp and grits and to spend some time with Matt before he had to go back to Iraq. Her condo was very nice, and I have to admit that I am jealous of her hardwood floors. It had been awhile since we all got to hang out like that, and it made me really miss college. Adams Birthday!!

Adam turned 27 this year on May 21. The Saturday after his birthday we got together with our friends Brian and Kris and went downtown to play putt-putt at the new Falls Park golf. It is a cool family owned place that has putt-putt and video games. We also went and had ice cream at the blueberry frog. My creation was chocolate yogurt with fruity pebbles, quite tasty.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have been feeling really blessed lately. Everyone in my life has provided something special. Adam is definitely the best husband and I don't know where I would be without him. God has also provided me with the best friends that a girl could ask for. I have known some since k-5, some since middle school, and some within the past few years. Sometimes it is hard for us all to see each other a lot now that we are adults and have families and jobs and what not, but I know that every one of them will always be there when I need them and vice versa. I also have the best family in the world. I could not ask for a better mother, father, sister, or brother-in-law. They are the best.
Lately I have been trying not to be so concerned about the little things in life and focus on what means the most to me. I have a wonderful husband, family, friends...I have a stable job and a house...I need to be thankful for what God has provided and who he has put in my life and not worry about the small things.

"Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Duck Derby

On Saturday, I went downtown with my mom and sister to the Duck Derby. It is a tradition that we go eat lunch and watch the race. Below are a few pictures from the day. The best part is watching the ducks go over the waterfall, it is so funny. There are so many of them too, the last picture shows only a small amount of how many ducks there were. Cant wait till next year!!

MUD RUN!!!

This past Saturday, Adam did the Marine Mud Run. It is a 4 mile obstacle course which includes mud crawls, climbing walls, running and different obstacles. Here is a picture of Adam, Kris, Jana, and Brian (aka The Spartans) after they finished. I was proud of him for doing so well, although he was definitley sore afterwards and still even now, haha. I, of course, was unable to do the race because of my ankle and I am a little out of shape, haha. I do want to do it next year, although as out of shape as I am I better start training now :)
Also below is a picture of them doing one of about 36 obstacles on the course, a tire challenge. They had to turn the tire over like 6 times before moving on to the next obstacle.

One year anniversary!!

Adam and I celebrated our one year anniversary this past Sunday, the 19th. I cannot believe it has actually been a year. Time has gone by so fast, but I have loved every minute of it. They say that the first year is the hardest, if this is true, then I think Adam and I are set. He is truly the best husband a girl could could have, I love him so much.

We celebrated our anniversary all day on Saturday. Adam was actually off on Saturday and Sunday. We started off the day with a picnic in Cleveland park. It was such a beautiful day outside. Then we went to the zoo to walk around and see the animals. That night we went and had a nice dinner out and then went to Frankies Fun Park to play putt-putt and have some fun. It was truly the perfect way to spend the day together. Here are a few pics from our day!!

Our new house!!!

This is our new house in Taylors. It is in a neighborhood about a mile or two down from Eastside high school. We are so excited we have purchased our very first home. I am also stressed about it too, I never knew what all it took to buy a house - it is such a long process. But we could not be happier. We will be closing around the 30th and will get the keys on May 2nd. I have already started to pick out paint colors and everything. Once we get settled in the house, we will have a cookout so everyone can come and see. I will put more pictures up of the yard and inside once we actually get the keys. : )

Tokyo Joe at Wild Wings

Thursday night Dorothy, Megan, and I went dowtown to Wild Wings to have dinner and see Tokyo Joe play (we missed you Belinda and Erin). It was definitely good times, Dorothy and I stayed to listen to them play some songs and I forgot how great they are. We kept saying well lets see what they play next before we leave, and of course it was always a good song. We finally decided to leave since we both had to work the next day but we cant wait till they come back. If you get the chance to listen to them play, do it. I mean how could you not love a cover band that opens up with "Summer of 69." I mean really!!

SNOW!!!

We finally got some snow this year!! I was unable to go out and play it in, I dont think it would be too smart to play in snow on crutches. But Adam took Roxie outside and sat her in the snow, which she didnt really like. She stood frozen like a statue once he sat her down. But the snow was really pretty and it was nice big white flakes. So sorry for the delay in posting, but I had quite an incident a few weeks ago. Adam and I, along with some friends went to Wolf Laurel for a ski weekend. We got there on Friday night and did the night skiing where we all had a great time. Then on Saturday, the real fun began. We starting skiing at around 9 that morning. I had been doing pretty well that day till about 1:00. I went down a green slope and apparently did not turn right and fell about two feet and proceeded to break my ankle in 3 places. At the time, it did not hurt as bad as I thought a broken bone should so I thought it was just a bad sprain. The ski patrol came and helped me down the mountain in one of those sled things (which was actually really fun, haha). I will put some pictures up tonight of the event. Long story short, we decided to drive back to Greenville so I could go to the emergency room here. I spent 5 loooong hours at St Francis Women's and went home doped up on pain pills till I could go to the orthopedics office on Monday. Dr Womack (if you ever have any foot problems, go to him, he is the best), told me it was broke and set me up surgery on Thursday to have a metal plate and pins put in. That was definitely a long 3 days. Sleep was not good. But surgery went well, and I am now in a hard cast (for 5 weeks) and walking around on crutches. Those are still hard to get used too. But I am hanging in there. It will be a long healing process, but I just keep telling myself that it could have been worse. Everything has its purpose so I am just taking it one day at a time.

Thank you to all my wonderful friends and family who have helped me, sent cards, brought food, and just came to visit. Yall made it a much less painful ordeal than it could have been. It is always nice to know you have friends and family to support you. God has truly blessed me with amazing friends.

A New Year

I know it has been awhile, I am sorry. My computer at home is not functioning too well so I am hoping once we get it cleaned up I will be able to post pics from Christmas and what not. I dont have much time now since I am blogging at work (taking a quick break), but I just wanted to say that one of my New Year's Resolution is to try and keep up with this thing, haha. I know everyone has new year resolutions so I thought I would post mine so I can have them up here and hopefully I can stick to them.

1. Keep up with my blog more often

2. Get into a routine of going to the gym instead of paying the monthly fee for no reason :)

3. Adam and I are going to buckle down with our saving and start looking for a house

4. I need to keep up with my daily devotions better

5. Try not to worry about things so much (I am a big worry wort) and know that God has everything under control

These are my resolutions for the year :). If you have any good ones feel free to comment and post your own. I promise to have another post soon once I get the computer running better and my new camera (thanks Adam) on there to upload pics.

Decorating and Christmas Party

I am so excited about Christmas this year, because it will be our first Christmas at the Phillips'. We spent the Saturday night after Thanksgiving decorating the Christmas tree and the apartment. We had a great time putting everything up and Roxie even enjoyed herself (and she has not messed with the tree yet either amazingly). Christmas is my favorite time of the year, getting to spend time with your family and friends and remembering the true meaning of Christmas. Below are a couple of pictures of our tree and apartment and also a few from our Sunday School Christmas party. We had a progressive dinner this past Saturday night and our home was host to the warm appetizers. It was so much fun to go to each others home and get to hang out with everyone. Adam and I are truly blessed to have found a church where we feel at home and have such great Christian friends.

Clemson USC

This year I watched the game with my sister, I think she thought she was going to be able to rub a win in my face. But alas, Clemson stomped USC, wooo hooo. GO TIGERS!!!! Wish I could have actually been at the game but it was nice to watch it with three USC fans and being able to gloat all day long.

6th Annual Friend Thanksgiving

Once again, my lovely friends and I had our annual Friend Thanksgiving. This is now the 6th year that we have continued this tradition. We started one year when we were all in Clemson before leaving to go home to our families. It is such a great tradition to get to spend with some of my best friends. Clemson Homecoming

This past Saturday I went to the Clemson vs. Duke game with my sister, Belinda, and Dorothy. It was definitely good to be at Clemson again. It made me miss my days as a student there. The weather ended up being great, a little cold at times, but it was a great day to hang out and see the Tigers win!!!! We even came early to have our not so fancy tailgate out of the back of my jeep :)

Apple picking in Hendersonville

Kris and I went apple picking this past Saturday in Hendersonville, NC. It was a great day to see all the beautiful fall colors and leaves. It amazes me that people can look at the beauty and still say that there is not a Creator. God has created this beautiful scenery for us to enjoy.
We went to the Sky Top Orchard to pick our apples. We ended up having to walk all the way to the end of the orchard to get the pink lady apples that we wanted which wasnt a problem till we had to tote our baskets full of apples all the way back. We had a great time and even got to sample all the different kinds of apples. They also sold these amazing apple cider doughnuts. I would be willing to drive the 40 minutes just for those doughnuts. Anyway, here are some pics from the trip.

Wilton Course I

Here are some pics of the cakes that I made for my Wilton course I. I am pretty proud of these cakes, especially the one with roses (even though my bow doesnt look that great). I waited to the last minute to make my roses and the icing bag busted twice, so I think it turned out pretty well if I say so myself. I am currently taking course II and learning how to make a bunch of different flowers. My dream job would be to own my own bakery and cake decorating shop one day.

So I have decided to do this whole blogging thing. It seems as though people love blogging so I thought I would just go on ahead and give it a try. I cannot promise that my blog will be interesting, but this is my life and I love it.
Currently I am procrastinating a little at work this morning. I know I shouldn't be, but I needed a little break this morning. I have been a little overwhelmed this week. I actually got a new job within the company that came with a raise (woo hoo). So I have been trying to do my job as well as train for the new one. A bit of information overload, but I think I am going to enjoy the new job. :)
I went to cake class last night for my Wilton course 2. We worked with color flow and royal icing and made several types of flowers. I am really enjoying these classes and have started to make some cakes for my friends so hopefully they are paying off. I have always loved to bake and now I am getting into the whole decorating part of it. I will post some pics soon of my cakes that I made for course 1. Let me know if you ever want me to make a cake for you, I would love to do it.
Well I think that I have procrastinated enough this morning, but I will post again soon with some pics and what not. Love to you all!!
